I was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and spent my early years hunting, fishing and camping with my dad and siblings. At the age of six, my family and I moved to Sherman, Texas, a small town near the Oklahoma border. I attended Sherman High School where I participated in track and field, cheerleading, volleyball and basketball. I played the flute in the band and was also involved in the flag corp and community service clubs. During my senior year, I was named SHS Homecoming Queen.
After graduation, I enrolled at the University of North Texas as a journalism major. I worked as a model and gymnastics coach to help pay for college. During my sophomore year, I joined UNT's track and field team as a walk-on and earned a full scholarship. It was a dream come true! I broke four school records at UNT (heptathlon, pentathlon, indoor high jump, outdoor high jump) and won six individual conference championship titles.
Four years after initial enrollment, I graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in radio, TV and film with a focus in television production. I worked as an intern at WFAA (ABC) in Dallas while attending graduate school and earned a master's degree in journalism the following year. Immediately after graduation, I received a job offer to work as a TV news producer for a local station (ABC/NBC) in Fort Myers, Florida. After two years in the news business, I decided to focus on a career in athletics and accepted a position as a track and field coach at Nova Southeastern University, a division II university in South Florida.
I later moved to New York City, returned to broadcast journalism and worked my way up to senior producer at Fox News Channel. I also worked as a fitness model during my time in The Big Apple. I modeled for Nike, Snickers, Gildan and other major brands. As if I wasn't busy enough already, I also started Flair Advantage, an online fashion boutique offering a carefully curated collection of items from high-end brands, including Versace, Swarovski, Christian Louboutin and more. This was my first venture into entrepreneurship and it taught me so much about business. I spent what little free time I had volunteering with City Harvest, the world's largest food rescue organization. I also developed a love for international travel and visited a new country every year for my birthday.
After nearly a decade in NYC, I moved to Atlanta and began working as a producer at CNN. My son Miles was born shortly after. And then, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. I was laid off from CNN in 2020. There I was - an unemployed single mother with an infant.
Instead of panicking, I took some time to figure out what I really wanted in life and I realized that financial freedom and time freedom were very important to me. I also realized that continuing to work for others would never give me that freedom. I decided to focus on building my own company. I created Bardic Media Group, parent company of my digital marketing agency Burn Strategy, my SaaS business Gym CRM by Burn Strategy and my online education platform Burn Strategy Academy. I have plans to launch Bardic Books and Bardic Studios soon.
My brother Curtiss Wesley was diagnosed with head and neck cancer in 2020. My son and I moved from Atlanta to Dallas to be with him in his final months. He died on September 30, 2021. Curtiss was an incredible dancer! My family and I are in the process of creating a dance scholarship in his memory.
Today, my son and I live in a solar-powered tiny home that I renovated in 2022. After spending years in major cities, I'm getting in touch with my country roots and teaching Miles the joy of simple living and the great outdoors. I run my businesses from home while trying to keep up with my little man. Follow me on social media to see what we're up to.
